Terms and conditions
1. Booking, payment and holding gear
- First paid, first confirmed: All gear is held on a “first paid, first confirmed” basis. If several customers want the same dates, the order in which we actually receive payment decides.
- Refunds and rescheduling: Once the rental is paid, we do not accept refunds, cancellations, rescheduling or a change of model (including but not limited to event cancellations, concert ticket problems or personal reasons).
- Severe weather: If the Hong Kong Observatory hoists Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 or above on pickup day, you can reschedule once for free.
- Identity check: With the no-deposit plan, the renter must show their own original Hong Kong ID card at pickup for checking. If the original can't be shown (only a copy or photo is brought, or someone else comes instead), we can't hand over the gear, and the rental paid will not be refunded.
2. Deposit and payment methods
- The deposit is paid at pickup. Only FPS or AlipayHK is accepted.
- Once our staff confirm on return that the gear and accessories are complete, undamaged and working normally, the deposit is returned the same day.
- If the gear is found damaged or faulty on return and needs repair, we may hold part or all of the deposit until we receive a formal repair quote from the official or an authorised service centre, and deduct the cost from the deposit (any difference is refunded or charged).
3. No-deposit plan (where applicable)
- Who can apply: The applicant must be the renter, and must come in person to pick up the gear.
- Documents to review in advance: Customers choosing the no-deposit plan must send these 4 complete and valid documents to our online customer service for review before pickup:
- A copy of the renter's own Hong Kong ID card (must be valid)
- A copy of a valid student card
- Your personal Instagram (IG) account
- A copy of the ticket for a concert or event held during the rental period
- You may add your own watermark to the copies you send (for example “For KK CAMERA rental review only”). KK CAMERA has the final say on the no-deposit review. If the documents are incomplete, not sent in time or not approved, the order switches to the deposit plan automatically.
4. Picking up and checking the gear
- When picking up the gear, the renter is responsible for checking its condition and functions carefully on the spot, including but not limited to:
- Phones / action cameras: body, screen (scratches or cracks), charging port and charging.
- Camera bodies: scratches, card slot reading and writing (insert a card and take test shots), shutter, focus, buttons and touch screen.
- Lenses / phone teleconverters: glass for scratches, mould or dust, smooth mounting, and autofocus.
- If you find any existing scratches, cracks or faults during the check, take photos on the spot, tell our staff right away and let KK CAMERA know on WhatsApp.
- Leaving the pickup point confirms that the gear and accessories are in perfect condition and working normally. Any problem raised after leaving, or without photos or video taken on the spot at pickup, is treated as damage during the rental, and the renter pays the related repair or compensation costs.
- We do our best to hand over the gear with its batteries fully charged (85% or above). If the charge is low at pickup and you need full batteries right away, please tell our staff on the spot.
5. Use, damage and compensation
- The renter must take good care of the gear during the rental. The renter is fully liable for any loss of, damage to or unauthorised disassembly of the gear or accessories. We reserve the right to claim all compensation and to report the matter to the police.
- Damage includes but is not limited to dropping the body or lens, water damage, impact, scratches, dents, and marks on or damage to the camera sensor caused by lasers.
- If damage or loss means the gear can't be rented to later customers as planned, the renter also compensates the loss of business during the repair or replacement period.
- Accessories and data recovery:
- If a lost or damaged accessory can't be bought on its own, the renter pays all reasonable replacement costs needed to restore the full set to its original condition and full function.
- If a memory card can't be read properly, do not hand it to a third party for data recovery. Doing so counts as damaging the card, which is charged at its original price.
- Reference compensation prices:
- Body: scratches or dents of any size: HKD $500 – $1,000+ each
- Cracked or scratched body or lens glass: HKD $3,000+
- Functional damage (such as focus failure, not powering on or a damaged screen): the actual quote from the manufacturer or an authorised service centre
- Lost gear or accessories, or gear damaged beyond repair: the current official retail price (replacement cost) of the same model, with no deduction for depreciation.
6. Returns, battery charge and extensions
- To extend a rental, the renter must ask before the original rental period ends. The extension only takes effect once we confirm availability.
- Returning late without prior agreement is a breach of these terms. Each late day is charged at the gear's first-day rental price (not the extension price). If a late return affects later bookings, we reserve the right to claim the related losses, and in extreme cases to report the matter to the police.
- All batteries must be fully charged (85% or above) when the gear is returned. Otherwise we charge a charging fee of HKD $10 per battery.
7. Use restrictions and third parties
- The renter may not sublet or lend the gear, or let a third party use it, without permission. The renter is liable for any damage, loss or other harm that results.
8. Disclaimer and limits of liability
- Before returning the gear, the renter must take back all personal items (such as their own memory cards or accessories) and delete or format all personal data and photos on the gear. We are not responsible for items left behind or for any leak of personal data.
- If force majeure or an unexpected event means we can't provide the gear, our liability is limited to refunding the rental for the affected period. We are not liable for any direct or indirect loss to the renter caused by gear faults, data loss or being unable to pick up the gear as planned.
- Before booking, the renter must check that the gear, lens mount and accessories are compatible with their own equipment. The rental is not refunded if the gear can't be used because it is not compatible.
If you have any questions about these terms, please contact KK CAMERA customer service before paying and confirming your booking.
